Moffett Field Offer Rare Views Of Military History

The Moffett Field Historical Society Museum is a one-of-a-kind reflection of Military History in the San Francisco Bay Area, and of Moffett Field and the Navy’s historic, iconic Hangar One.

A visit to the Museum is a walk through the sweep of military and area aviation history from  the 1930s to the present, with a wide range of displays and artifacts from the Lighter-than-Air era, World War II, the Korean conflict, the “Cold War” period and contemporary times.

The Museum reflects and represents the history of Moffett Field which, over the years, has been “home” for the Navy, Army Air Corps, Air National Guard, and non-military users including NASA.

The Museum provides a truly unique experience that will engage and be enjoyed by the entire family, including hands-on exhibits for the kids such as our helicopter flight simulator and restored P-3 Orion and AV-8A Harrier cockpits.

Historic and contemporary aircraft are also featured: P-2 Neptune and P-3 Orion maritime patrol planes, an F-104 Starfighter and a U-2 spy plane. The Museum also features displays of military uniforms and flight gear, a WW II dogtag machine to make unique souvenirs, a well-stocked book and gift shop, an extensive research library, and knowledgeable docents, including veterans who have “been there,” available for tours.

The Event Room in the Museum is available to outside groups and organizations for a reasonable fee as a truly unique setting for meetings, conferences, parties, and other events.

2010 marks the 5th anniversary of the Museum in its current location in the shadow of Hangar One, and the 77th anniversary of the Naval Air Station - NAS Sunnyvale. The Museum will celebrate these anniversaries with an Open House Friday and Saturday, April 16 - 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
