Castle Air Museum opened in 1981 to pay tribute to the significant role military aviation has played in the defense of the free world.
Today the Atwater, Calif. Museum has evolved into an exciting destination for families, history buffs, and aviation enthusiasts, for anyone who wants an educational and entertaining stroll through the past. Currently there are 51 restored aircraft on the Museum grounds which encompass flying history from WW II to the present.
The Museum boasts a varied collection of grand old war birds. We also have Cold War aircraft including an SR-71, and up to the more recent F-14 and F-15. Several other cold War aircraft, including an RF-8 and an RA-3B will soon join the collection.
This year will be a busy one with many special events including a pasta feed on March 27th, Strawberry Waffle Brunch on May 2nd, a car show among the planes on May 8th, Open cockpit Day on May 30th, An Evening Under the Stars (Dinner/Dance) on July 31st, the Fall Open Cockpit on September 5th, our Omelet Brunch on October 3rd, Halloween Fright Night on October 30th, our annual Membership Dinner on November 12th, and the beautiful Christmas Plane Lane from December 17th through December 23rd.
The museum gift shop will also be open during these events. Castle Air Museum is a non-profit foundation which relies upon volunteers, members, visitors, and special events to manage the huge task of maintaining the grounds and aircraft.
We work very hard to make the special events a wonderful family outing for our visitors. Each of the above events presents visitors with an interesting variety of activities as well as the privilege of spending time with history.
